  • Athens Half Marathon Start at Syntagma Square outside the Greek Parliament. Run under the shadow of the Parthenon, past the ancient Panathinaikon Stadium, behind Lycabettus hill and finish back at Parliament. What’s not to love about Athens?

  • Vitality Bath Half Marathon Superheroes, villains, giant shoes, a dinosaur and these sumo wrestlers lined up for the 36th edition of an event that prides itself on the variety of fancy dress among its runners – and the amount raised for charity.

  • New Delhi Marathon At the centre of New Delhi stands the 42m India Gate, a stirring war memorial archway astride the Rajpath. Since 1971, a simple sculpture beneath it has served as India's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

  • Karapoti Classic New Zealand’s oldest mountain bike race is an old-school adventure ride with a LeMans-style start. With bikes in hand, riders sprint across the Akatarawa River to begin their ride into the spectacular Karapoti Gorge.

  • Kathmandu Coast to Coast Challenge takes on a whole new meaning as participants run, kayak and cycle across the main divide, from Kumara on the South Island West Coast to New Brighton Beach, Christchurch, on the East Coast.
