Men's winner Liam Adams crossed the line in 41m11s - before the last wave of the race had begun. Many entered the event to raise money for charities and this year it's estimated more than $A3 million was raised for worthy causes.

Amsterdam Marathon

16 Oct:

It was perfect running weather for the 36th Amsterdam Marathon; blue sky, autumn sunshine and almost no wind - and record numbers turned out to run in the marathon and shorter distances. The flat, fast course passes through some of the city's most attractive features.

This year six men finished under 2:07 although last year's course record still held. Ethiopian Tiki Gelana set a new women's record of 2:22:08 and Dutch runner Lornah Kiplagat earned herself a place at the London Olympic Games for her finish in 2:25:52.

The times confirm that Amsterdam Marathon is one of the fastest in the world and one that is also enjoyed by runners from throughout the world.
