It is the race for those who like discovering the undiscovered, running alongside a river and meandering through the heart of a medieval capital city. Hannover Marathon

Hannover Marathon celebrated its 20th anniversary with new men's and women's race records. This marathon had events for everybody. There was a half marathon, as well as inline skate, handbike, relay, 10km, kids run and Nordic walking distances on offer. Kenyan Yussuf Sangoka won the men's race in a very fast 2:08:52 and Kateryna Stetsenko, from the Ukraine, won the women's in 2:31:36

Geneva Marathon

Excellent weather and a new two-day format made the 6th Geneva Marathon a great success. Renamed the Geneva Marathon for Unicef, a proportion of all registrations was donated to the UN children's charitable organisation. This year the event raised 25,000 Swiss francs.

While the marathon and half marathons were run on the Sunday as usual, a new women's 6km race and a children's race were run on the Saturday. Further changes are planned for next year to attract more runners to the marathon.

METRO Group Marathon Düsseldorf

Almost 12,000 runners lined up at the start of the 8th Düsseldorf Marathon. By the end, Moldavian runner Iaroslav Musinschi had set a new course record of 2:08:32. He was the first European marathon runner this year to clock a sub 2:10 time.

The spectacular course runs directly through the city centre, along the gorgeous Koenigsallee and through the famous Old Town. At several places along the route there are stunning views of the river Rhine and Duesseldorf's impressive skyline. It is a course that promises – and delivers - a great running experience.

Madrid Marathon

Kenyan Thomson Cherogony set a new race record for the 33rd Madrid Marathon, when he finished in 2:11:27. The race, nicknamed Mapoma, is one of the most important sports events in Spain. It is an IAAF Silver Road Race and has a rather demanding course.

Madrid is 700m above sea level and the route has quite a few slopes but is also one of the most beautiful on the international calendar. Runners pass by places like Paseo de la Castellana, Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, Puerta del Sol, the Royal Palace and there is a spectacular finish in the historic Retiro Park.
