04 Jul:

It's now Australia's largest marathon! More than 5000 crossed the start in the Gold Coast Airport Marathon – 1000 more than last year. In total 23,800 competed in a new two-day format covering six distances. It was the ninth year of growth for the event and organisers say the change to two days will allow for more growth in future. The Gold Coast provided perfect running condtions on a route that largely followed the region's stunning ocean coastline.

So much enthusiasm at the early morning start; so many smiles at the finish. In between 1800 people from 53 countries ran on the Great Wall of China. Full marathoners ran on it twice – 3.6km and 5164 steps.

The marathon is a tough, beautiful and extraordinary experience in the mountains of Tianjin Province, China. In addition to crossing the Great Wall, the course passes through charming rural villages where crops are being planted, spring growth is fresh on the trees and residents cheer runners as they pass by their homes.

Marathon de Québec
Marathon des Deux Rives

18 Aug:

Spectacular scenery and a beautiful course took runners' minds off the heat in the 13th Quebec City Marathon. Temperatures reached 30 degrees as the record field followed the waterfront along both sides of the St Lawrence River from Levis on the south bank across the bridge to finish in historic Quebec city. More than three-quarters of the course is along the riverbank.

Musicians inspired runners along the way and there was more entertainment in the park at the finish by the famous Gare du Palais train station.

In addition to the marathon, there was a half marathon, 10km run, 5km kids run and a Health 5K fundraising walk.

The world's largest fun run turned 40 in style, with a record 80,000 entries and a perfect day for running. People streamed from Hyde Park in central Sydney to Bondi Beach, 14km away on the coast. Among them were serious and recreational runners, walkers, surf lifesavers, a range of super heroes, cartoon characters and a large contingent of Star Wars storm troopers. All added fun to the run that takes over Sydney on the second Sunday of every August.

Australian Outback Marathon

31 Jul:

"Stunning" , "wonderful" and "fantastic" were the reactions of runners at the finish line of the first Australian Outback Marathon. On a sunny, cloudless but cool day, they were treated to perfect views of Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) as they followed a course over fire trails, tracks, sand dunes and very little sealed road in Australia's red centre. Recent rain meant they were also treated to the green of fresh vegetation contrasting with the red pathways under their feet. At the finish, organisers lined up rows of spinifex grass to mark the path to the end of the race.
